It was announced at congress after this year's ITF World Championships in Korea, that Liverpool had won its bid to host the Championships in 2019. This follows on from the European championships held there earlier this year, when ITF England and Liverpool proved themselves to be more than up to the task.
Some of our talented members at Wirral UKTA will be training hard with England coaches in the hope of being selected for the squad when the time comes!
Seven members of Wirral UKTA travelled to Teeside for a seminar with Grandmaster Williamson yesterday. There was a black belt seminar followed by a coloured belt seminar, then a grading for those ready.
The three Wirral coloured belts who graded were all successful in promoting to the next grade, well done Tom (7th kup), Pete (3rd kup), and Isaac (2nd kup), a great performance from all of you.
The seminar was followed by a race night fundraiser organised by Mr Black to raise funds for students to travel to competitions and also for the Taekwon-do families who were victims of the Grenfell fire.
It was a really great evening, and we all ended up staying a lot longer than planned!
Wirral UKTA Members were treated to two free lessons from Master Hwang Suil, famous for doing the motion capture for Hwoarang in Tekken II.
Master Hwang, Multiple World Champion, who is now the Japanese National Coach, took classes in Irby and Moreton. He came along with England Coach Master Alan Clark as both were in Liverpool as part of the events team for the ITF European championships at the Echo Arena.
Master Hwang proved to be inspirational and we all took something away with us to work on. What a fantastic treat for us!
