Taekwon-Do info

Dear Student / Parents

In the last newsletter I sent out I told you that the next area seminar and grading would be on 17th February in Moreton. This has now changed and will be held in Leeds. The next area Wirral one will be in May.

I will be arranging a local grading (not seminar) with Mr Rose some time in the next few weeks for those who want to grade but can’t travel to Leeds.

However if you still want to go to the Leeds seminar you still can but I will need to know by Wednesday 30^th January. If you haven’t been in tough about it by then I will assume you are not going.

As soon as I have the date for the Wirral grading with Mr Rose I will let people know.

Mr Felix Lopez 4th Dan, current European Power Champion and several times England Sparring Champion, has agreed to come and do a competition sparring workshop with Wirral students.

I will probably organise this for a Saturday or Sunday and the cost will be around £5. This is an excellent opportunity for our students.

I may have to limit it by age or grade depending on numbers, so *please give your names to me now if you are interested*, (preferably by email: instructor@wirraltaekwondo.com)
*Also please note there will be no TKD on Sunday 26th Jan*

IMPORTANT UPDATE ITF England Northern Area

Dear Masters, Instructors, Black belts & Colour belts,

Unfortunately, Holy Cross College, Bury have double booked the sports hall on Saturday the 8th of December. I have looked for a further venue with a decent Training Hall but unfortunately these are booked for this date, therefore the final ITF England Northern Area Training Session is Cancelled, regrettably.

I hope you have all enjoyed the sessions, that you have been able to attend. Now we are up and running I'm hoping these sessions will get better and better with larger numbers. Hopefully, in 2008 those of you that do attend on a regular basis will consider attending National Training sessions for ITF England selection.

The Senior & Junior European championships are in May 2008 with the Veteran & Junior Worlds in October 2008. This is going to be a busy year for ITF England. Please support your area by encouraging eligible members from your school to attend lets see if we can have a further European or even World champion from our Area!!!

For a small area we are already producing National Medallists in every category, so we must be doing something right!!!

On behalf of ITF England I wish you a Happy Holiday & prosperous New Year.

Seminar and grading Sun 18 Nov

The day for the area seminar has been set as 'Sunday 18th Nov'. I will need confirmation (& payment from those who don't pay monthly) by *next Wed* (7th) at the absolute latest.

Most people are not ready to grade, but should go to the seminar anyway if possible. There is only one per year in Wirral and you should really do two - the next one will probably be in Wirral but the one after that will probably be in Leeds. As this one is Bolton (near Manchester) its nearer.

I have room in my car if anyone needs a lift, however you'll be stuck there the whole day if you come with me! There may be other people who you can share a lift with, let me know if you need me to ask around.

(The seminar is a lesson with a 7th or 8th Dan Master, 2 hours for adults & over 13's and 1 hour for children. Once you get to blue belt only the Masters can grade you - meet them all beforehand so you know what to expect!)

Area seminar and grading

Dear Students / parents

The next 'Area seminar and grading' will be on either Sat 17th or Sun 18th November in Bolton (actual day to be confirmed asap). Lifts can be arranged.

We normally start at around 9.30 with the adults seminar (also includes all over 13 year olds and all junior red tags and above). This lasts for 2 hours and is followed by the junior seminar at around 11.30 which lasts for 1 hour. There is then a short break for lunch of about half an hour, followed by the grading. Lower grades grade first and can then go - so up to yellow belts would hopefully be finished within an hour.

The seminar is a lesson / advice session given by a 7th or 8th Dan Master. Grading rules require students to attend 2 seminar per year. All Wirral UKTA students who pay monthly get two seminars included so have 'nothing to pay' for the seminar.

If you don't pay monthly the cost is £18 for the senior seminar, £15 for the junior seminar. The grading costs are the same. (Its not too late to set up your monthly payments now!). Not everyone is ready to grade. I'll be letting you know this week if I think you are ready to grade - if I don't speak to you make sure you ask.

I will need confirmation from you this week as to whether you are attending the seminar or not.

H. Bennett

English Championships

The English Open Taekwon-Do Championships will be held in Crawley this year (4 hours 15 minutes drive by car) on Saturday 29th September. We are pricing a coach depending on numbers.

Can you *let me know* if you are:
a) definitely *not *going
b) interested in going but would rather make your own way by car
c) interested in going by organised coach

If interested in going by coach would you rather travel up the night *before* and stay over / travel up early morning on the day of the comp and stay over night *after* / travel there and back the same day / don't mind which.

A double / family room normally costs around £50 for the night, we can tell you the coach cost once we have an idea of numbers. *Please let me know* how many people in your family / friends group will want to travel on the coach. There is *no charge* for spectators at the event.

All students of yellow belt or higher at the time of the competition are eligible to compete. You are grouped by grade and for juniors also by height, for seniors by weight.

If you have any more questions about the comp please email me, otherwise please let me know your intentions *as soon as possible *so we can make arrangements.

Thanks
Helen Bennett

Inter-school Championships

There is an inter-school, invite only, championship on Saturday 14th July at Holy Cross College, Bury. Wirral Taekwon-do School has been invited. There should be at least 2 rings and would like to encourage as many of our students to attend as possible to "bring honour to Wirral Taekwon-do School". This is a good introduction to competitions if you are put off by the idea of attending a national level competition.

New Wirral Taekwon-do School Website

The new Wirral Taekwon-do School website is now being developed. If you are at the site now you will see that it looks very different. This will be a central resource for all the school activities, documents for you to download, instructions and guidance. All black-belts and selected colour belts will be provided with an administration logon to help maintain the detail on the site and to keep it up-to-date. Please note, at the time of posting this item, the site is in a very incomplete state. Please bear this in mind as you navigate, but also, please feel free to comment on any feature ideas you may have.
